this entry is a mild example of what jonathan safran foer describes in "everything is illuminated" allegorically in the scene in which the mad squire sofiowka ties a string to his finger to remember something, and then ties the string to another body part to remember his finger, and then ties it to more body parts, each successive one to remember the last, until he has tied himself up and can't move.

i know what this remembers like.
